SNAPSHOT
Anyone who has seen video action break up or block out while watching a live televised sporting event knows the frustration of missing a key play because of a poor picture. For public safety practitioners using incident video services, however, a clear picture could mean the difference between life and death.
AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH
The PSCR program has worked with practitioners on behalf of the DHS OIC, is helping to develop quality requirements for public safety video applications. PSCR studied public safety’s video use and quality for the following application areas:
- Tactical video for law enforcement
- Surveillance video, live monitoring, and forensic analysis
- Structural fire (i.e., identifying fire characteristics)

- Consumer Digital Video Library — View or download video samples we provide to the CDVL. We create video samples to support our own video quality performance testing. We share these samples with the public to support others researching video performance for public safety or other applications.
- Tools for Public Safety — Use resources we developed to support requirements gathering when planning public safety video applications.
