TECHNICAL GUIDELINES DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (TGDC)
TGDC Subcommittee Work Plan & Public Input
In accordance with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), NIST provides the Technical Guidelines Development Committee (TGDC) with the technical assistance necessary to develop voluntary voting systems guidelines for consideration by the Election Assistance Commission (EAC). NIST has coordinated with the TGDC to host a number of public meetings, at which NIST technical staff presented results of analysis and recommendations for voluntary voting systems guidelines. That initial work culminated in the production of the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) Version 1.0, which the TGDC delivered to the EAC on May 9, 2005.
NIST subsequently consulted with the TGDC to develop a major revision of the VVSG, which was provided to the EAC on August 31, 2007. Although the EAC refers to it as TGDC Recommended Guidelines on their website, it is commonly referred to as Draft VVSG 2.0.
The TGDC is currently involved in working group meetings with NIST staff. Subcommittees include the following:
- Marginal Marks
- UOCAVA (Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act)
- Usability and Accessibility
TGDC meetings are open to the public, who are invited to submit their comments to the TGDC. The tables below provide links to meeting minutes, and public comments and position statements are also posted. Historical (pre-2008) subcommittee meeting minutes and audio are also available.
