The 2025 meeting will be held on June 26, 2025. We hope to make this hybrid, with the physical meeting in newly renovated spaces at NIST. Details to follow.

OSAC is processing two documents that came out of our discussion groups:

• OSAC 2024-N-0004, Standard Guide for Capturing Iris Images for Use with Iris Recognition Systems : completed OSAC review, sent to ASTM
• OSAC 2024-N-0005 Standard Guide for Minimum Training Recommendations of Iris Image Examiners : in review at OSAC

10/24/2024 IEG Discussion Group Updates

• The original tasks for the IEG discussion groups are largely completed (see 10/24/2024 Recent IEG Success Stories above).
  • As a result the groups are undergoing a reorganization. See the updated Discussion Group section.
• We setup a process for soliciting public comments.

04/12/2024  Annual Meeting:  Registration & Agenda

Registration for our annual meeting on Thursday, June 13, 2024 is now open at  https://www.nist.gov/news-events/events/2024-iris-experts-group-ieg-meeting .

• The meeting is pure virtual via Zoom.  All attendees, including NIST staff and speakers must registerin order to get the link to the meeting.  
• The link will be sent to registrants on June 12.
• Please register early.  It is easier for our meeting staff to deal with a few no shows than the same number of late registrations.
• The current agenda(and any subsequent update) is available here .
• Speakers are confirmed, but some details may change.  Please check the agenda the day before the meeting to be sure of times.Registration is open until COB on June 11.

1. Reminder:  Our next annual meeting is planned for Thursday, June 13, 2024.  We hope to make this a hybrid meeting.  Suggestions for topics/speakers may be sent to james.matey [at] nist.gov (James Matey).
2. We are delighted to report that two standards documents originally drafted and reviewed by our IEG Discussion Groups have been passed on to OSAC and are now up for public comment at the Organization of Scientific Area Committees for Forensic Science (OSAC) website.  These documents will eventually be sent to ASTM for ASTM review, approval and publication.  Anyone with an interest in the documents can find them at
   • OSAC 2024-N-0004, Standard Guide for Capturing Iris Images for Use with Iris Recognition Systems
   • OSAC 2024-N-0005, Standard Guide for Minimum Training Recommendations of Iris Image Examiners
   • Comments  on the documents can be submitted using the  OSAC comment form at https://www.nist.gov/document/osac-20-public-comment-tablesept-2021 ;  comments should be sent to comments [at] nist.gov (comments[at]nist[dot]gov) by 11:59 pm EST March 4^th.
