Detector

The new detector is a custom-built array of 20 high pressure (10 bar 3He) tube detectors (25.4 mm diameter) with an effective area of 25 cm (w) x 38 cm (h). Spatially resolved measurements with multiple diffraction peaks will be optimized through apertures with curved slots (conical slits) specific for a given combination of material and wavelength. A conventional single opening aperture is available as well.

The improved detector resolution (2.8 mm) combined with the higher pressure of the detection gas leads to a strain resolution gain factor of 2.2 compared with the old detector. Individual data on each of the 20 tubes are available but the default analysis mode is pair-wise summation, thus setting the vertical resolution to 3.8 cm. The vertical angular range is »30°, depending on the distance to the sample.
