We welcome research, technology, and standards development collaborations. By leveraging our core capabilities, we aim to foster innovation and provide measurement assurance to biotech, healthcare, manufacturing, environmental health, and national security industries and stakeholders.
Our Partnering Approach
Collaborations with Scientists and Engineers – We partner with industry, other federal agencies, national metrology institutes (NMIs), academia, and standards organizations to accelerate the development, dissemination, and adoption of standards and technology for biotechnology applications.
Technologies and Tools – We leverage NIST's expertise in measurement science, standards development, and basic research to establish core technical capabilities that deliver robust measurement tools and novel technologies tailored to stakeholder needs.
International Standards Leadership – We lead and contribute to documentary standards across standards developing organizations (SDOs). Documentary standards establish consensus frameworks that ensure interoperability, enable rigorous comparison, support biomanufacturing, streamline regulatory approval, and promote commerce for emerging biotechnologies.
Partnering Mechanisms – We collaborate through interagency agreements, direct partnerships with industry and academia, technology licensing, joint publications, hosted workshops and leadership roles within global standards and metrology communities. ACTIVE PARTNERSHIPS & COLLABORATIONS
NIST-LED CONSORTIA
Through public–private–academic collaborations, NIST's biotechnology consortia develop the advanced biometrology, reference materials, high-confidence datasets, and standardized protocols that are needed to accelerate R&D, biomanufacturing, translation, and commercialization of innovative biotechnology products.
ACADEMIC/INDUSTRY/NON-PROFIT COLLABORATIONS
Through collaborations, grants, and technology licensing, NIST partners with commercial, academic, and non-profit organizations to develop cutting edge science and technology.
ACTIVE INTERAGENCY AGREEMENTS
Through interagency agreements, NIST partners with other federal agencies to apply its foundational measurement science, reference materials, and independent validation capabilities to mission-critical challenges across health, biodefense, environmental quality, and advanced technology.
