Demountable Cells

SANS demountable titanium cells

The demountable titanium cells are the most commonly used sample holders for NCNR SANS experiments. They are easy to assemble, disassemble and clean and are able to hold gel, melt, powder and liquid samples.

The cells have fixed sample thicknesses of 1 mm, 2 mm, and 4 mm. There are also "0 mm" path length cells with no built-in spacer, that can use a spacer or solid sample to define the sample thickness. The 1 mm path length cells require a sample volume of 0.5 ml and volume scales with sample thickness.

The sample is held in the cell by two quartz windows, each window sealed by an o-ring. The o-rings are compressed by retaining rings that are held down by four screws. Electric, torque-locking screw drivers are available for insertion and removal of the screws. After assembling the cells, liquid samples can be inserted through the top using a syringe. Different o-rings materials are available for solvent compatibility.

PDF and zipped STEP files are available for all of our cell bodies and retainer rings.
