The Story of an Old Timer: Wireless

Just nine months after the start of NBS, Guglielmo Marconi successfully transmitted the letter "S" across the Atlantic ... and the age of "wireless" began. In the early years, this new science was only known as wireless. Isn't it interesting that "wireless" has come back into widespread use again?

At that time, the Bureau was busy moving "way out" to Connecticut Avenue in N.W. Washington, D.C. Note the antenna (below) in the panorama view of the new NBS headquarters.
