The Story of an Old Timer: 1970s

WWVH

Then on July 1, 1971, WWVH began broadcasting at the new facility on the Navy's PMRF site on the island of Kauai.

One year after WWVH moved, on July 1, 1972, the WWVL broadcast was discontinued and WWVB began using the North and South arrays as alternate or standby antennas.

In July of 1971, a telephone time of day service began - basically just using the audio signal. By 1975 there were over one million calls per year. It is still in use today.

WWVH began a similar service in April 1973 with 200,000 calls per year.
