The CHIPS Program Office Environmental Division administers the environmental review process for projects funded through the CHIPS Incentives Program, consistent with applicable federal laws and regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), as well as applicable Executive Orders. CHIPS environmental reviews evaluate the effects of CHIPS projects on areas such as:

  • Water Resources
  • Energy Use
  • Waste Management
  • Health and Safety
  • Climate Change
  • Air Quality

The Environmental Division works with CHIPS program applicants to identify mitigation measures that help avoid, minimize, or compensate for adverse environmental effects in these areas and incorporates such measures into CHIPS funding decisions. The Environmental Division also provides technical assistance to applicants on complying with environmental laws and regulations and permitting requirements.
