CHIPS for America represents a historic investment in place-based industrial strategy. While the program primarily is seeking to advance national and economic security objectives, CHIPS investments have the catalytic potential to spur economic progress and broad-based growth in regions across the U.S.
For CHIPS to be successful, investment will be needed not just in chipmaking facilities, but also in human and physical infrastructure. It means funding in education and innovation so Americans across the country can access these great jobs, but also in programs and services like transit, affordable housing, and childcare that ensure they can keep these jobs. It means supporting small businesses on Main Street so they can take part in new economic opportunities in their regions. It means thinking ahead to build critical energy, water, and other infrastructure so that our communities can continue to take advantage of the economic momentum that CHIPS investments will catalyze.
Regions across the United States are hosting investments of vital importance to the CHIPS for America Vision for Success and the country’s economic and national security over the next decade, and more are on the way in new regions. CHIPS for America intends to work with a select number of regions across the United States that are key to the domestic semiconductor industry to provide the support needed for expanding and emerging regional semiconductor industry clusters to succeed.
