Susana Deustua

By training, Susana Deustua is an observational astronomer with expertise in the areas of spectrophotometric (spectral irradiance) calibration, cosmology with Type Ia Supernovae, and astronomy education and outreach. She has extensive experience in UV to IR imaging and spectroscopy with ground and space-based telescopes, instrument calibration and user support. Her projects include collaborations to calibrate astronomical telescopes and to determine the flux of standard stars to the high accuracy necessary to meet the requirements of large astrophysical surveys and for the next generation of scientific satellites and ground-based facilities. She shared the 2007 Gruber Foundation Cosmology Prize and the 2015 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant Type Ia supernovae.
