EBIT Central Drift Tube
The Central Drift Tubes perform two basic operations (1) They accelerate the beam electrons to their full energy and (2) provide an axial electrostatic trap for the positive ions. A potential difference of up to 500 V between the inner and outer tubes produces the axial potential of the trap. The center drift tube has eight radial observation slits so the ions can be viewed from the side of the trap.
