NIST's Unmanned Ground Vehicle Test Facilities

In order to validate the F45 published standards and to measure performance of A-UGVs in support of F45 work items, a reconfigurable test area is needed.  NIST has recently assembled a test area that represents manufacturing and warehouse facility components, including: racking, concrete, steel, and wood floors, various boundaries (pedestrian, rack, and masonry), various lighting, and several other environmental conditions.  The racking includes mock-palletized loads and nearby is a ramp with negative obstacles that can vary in width and length.  A support structure for cameras, lights, wiring, sensors, curtains, and other overhead-mounted equipment is provided.  A control area with safety camera system and video record/playback with large screen is also included.  The test area is next to a large roll-up door for indoor/outdoor accessibility.  Photos of the current configuration are provided here.
