NSF: MAGIK Offspecular Reflectometer (MAGIK)

MAGIK offspecular scattering
Schematic from Brian Maranville

Neutron spin filters can be applied to measurements requiring different field orientations. The schematic shown above illustrates the use of NSFs on MAGIK. In this example, the NSF is the analyzer for a polarized beam measurement with a horizontal field. For more details concerning the neutron spin filter, please select the provided links for general {Chen03} and specific {Chen04} applications. For more info concerning the MAGIK instrument, please contact Brian Maranville or Joe Dura (contact info below).

Specifications for NSFs on MAGIK
  • 3He cell analyzer cell only
  • 3He polarization flipping capability
  • Wavelengths: \({\lambda}\) = 5 \({\unicode{x212B}}\)
  • Measurable Q range covers most of 2D PSD
  • Sample field: H \({\leq}\) 0.7 T
  • Four cross-section polarization correction
  • 3He trasnmission: \({\leq}\) 54% (for desired state)
  • Flipping ration: \({\leq}\) 90
