1-Smart Shape Technology *
The team will demonstrate how a mobile device can take a picture of one part of a larger device, then identify a local retailer where the part can be found or a local neighborhood 3D printing service provider where it can be printed instantly. The demo illustrates how Smart Shape Technology, by using revolutionary shape search, active label, smart hubs and 3D printing, will create local jobs and increase local skills.

2-Smart Emergency Response System "SERS" *
In the aftermath of a disaster, every second counts. Imagine a system that can locate people quickly, saving more lives. The SERS demonstration includes search-and-rescue dogs, a 6-foot-tall humanoid robot and drones all communicating with first responders. With this concept, a Smartphone app will be downloaded to send for help; a haptic device will be used to teleoperate a robot by logging into the WiFi network; autonomous aircraft, drones and ground vehicles will be simulated and illustrated in Google Earth; a video stream from the sensors will be analyzed; and a high-performance computing mission center will show the optimization algorithms in action on a geographical map—all happening live.

3-Safe Community Alert Network (SCALE) *
SCALE will show that the public sector can create an automated safety alert and community awareness network that protects vulnerable populations by demonstrating our ability to extend a connected safe home to everyone at a low incremental cost. Using advanced sensor and receiving technology, an elderly, home-bound resident could be helped quickly in the event of a fall. Smoke detectors with dead batteries could be identified quickly, lowering fire injuries and fatalities. Sensors can be deployed and connected to first responders, creating a safer environment for residents and economic opportunity for businesses that might build, deploy and maintain these devices.

4-Smart Vehicle Communications*
"V2X" goes beyond Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure communications to include Vehicle-to-Pedestrian interactivity to increase safety. We will demonstrate this with an Acura car communicating via wireless to a pedestrian's Qualcomm-enabled smartphone. We also will be demonstrating Vehicle-to-Cloud services with an Audi car using INRIX data streams to provide real-time updates on available parking (metered street parking, lots and garages) as a precursor to other connected car services, such as interaction with traffic signals for green light optimization.

5-Smart Energy CPS
The Smart Energy CPS team will demonstrate a wide area protection scheme for coordinated defense of the power grid against cyber attack. The team also will highlight a testbed for Smart Grid for cybersecurity, resiliency and new energy marketplace experimentation.

6-Autonomous Robotics for Installation and Base Operations (ARIBO)
The ARIBO project partners will show how autonomous vehicle systems can safely interact with humans in real-world environments. The data provided through the project may lead to advances in roadway safety, a better understanding of how best to integrate automated vehicles into our daily lives, and improved mobility and independence for those with physical challenges. The group will have a prototype vehicle at the expo.

7-Smart Roads
Smart Roads will show how large-scale, effective management and control of road traffic can improve traffic flows, decrease travel times and possibly reduce emissions. Such a management system relies on a large number of sensors and ramp meters that, in turn, use the Internet and thus are vulnerable to cyber attack. The team will demonstrate the potential impact of cyber attacks on the system using simulation, so that operators can be prepared to manage such emergencies.

8-South East Michigan Smart Transportation
Connected vehicles have the potential to transform travel through the creation of a safe, interoperable wireless communications network that includes vehicles, traffic signals, cell phones and devices. The demonstration will highlight an application running on an Android Tablet (representing an in-vehicle display) to graphically demonstrate how an electric vehicle would send and receive a message via the U.S. Department of Transportation communications framework, requesting and receiving information from a combination of sources about fueling stations' location, type and availability, and then providing mapping information to the most appropriate destination.

9-Smart Manufacturing
Visitors to this expo demo will learn how smart manufacturing and open architecture platforms are key to creating new jobs, improving manufacturing sustainability and energy efficiency, as well as driving innovation and opportunity for both large and small manufacturers. The project will introduce the Smart Manufacturing Platform through a Steam Methane Reformer testbed demonstration.

10-Smart Home/Business Gateway
The project will demonstrate how the Gateway architecture enables quick and economic extension of cyber-physical system applications in homes and businesses. Highlighted scenarios, including home automation, eHealth and security, will encourage creative thought and business development. Lighting control and energy conservation also will be presented.

11-Connecting Smart Systems to Optimize Emergency Neurological Life Support
The demo features a proposed Smart Emergency Medical Services System, including advanced neurological assessment and a Smart Neuro intensive care unit, all exhibiting the value of "connected systems." Visitors will see equipment from both settings as well as a video that explains how early neurological care can improve outcomes and reduce costs. They can also step under the "Cone of Knowledge" to learn the details through an interactive display.

12-Smart Power, Smart Light, Made in Detroit
This demo features a new smart lighting and power system installed in a Bedrock Real Estate commercial property in Detroit. The system includes a Nextek Smart Power server and Nextek SKY control of the Smart Light source, which uses LED tube replacements made by TOGGLED. Together, these elements show a cost-effective deployment of Internet-connected lighting in a direct current platform that is safer, more efficient, more secure, more flexible and less expensive than conventional systems.

13- Event Management for Smarter Cities
AT&T and IBM are demonstrating a way to operate and coordinate more effectively during the planning and monitoring phases of a major entertainment event. The team will show an example of how to transform a city's operations by combining data from a variety of sources and presenting insights to event managers on a dashboard that helps them manage both the expected and unexpected. They also will show an animation of a residential building connected to a smart grid and how various household devices could make optimal use of distributed energy resources along the electricity supply chain.

14-Convergence of Smart Home and Building Architecture
With the "Secure SmartHome" demo, we show how to pair various SmartHome devices as well as set up secure connections for the end user with the help of a smart phone. Users can easily secure their household device connections using a smart phone without typing long, complicated keys. This can help prevent potential hacker attacks, for example on air conditioning.

15-Project Boundary
We will be showcasing the Break! app that helps employees take healthier breaks. The app interacts with a set of low-energy Bluetooth beacons to award points for drinking more water, taking the stairs and walking in the halls. It pushes messages at the right moments to help individuals make better decisions that can improve their health. The demo will allow visitors to see this interaction and share the story of how quickly the team brought this concept together.

16-Enhanced Water Distribution Infrastructure
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and CH2M HILL have been collaborating with water utilities to leverage machine to machine (M2M) cellular technologies that will help these utilities improve water quality, receive reliable information and manage water resources. The demonstration will highlight how the application of M2M is enabling four progressive utilities to cost-effectively fill a major gap currently existing in the water industry with regard to how utilities collect, transmit and use system and asset data, and how that data can be more effectively converted into "actionable" information.

17-Smart City USA
This city-wide Internet of Things pilot project employs a targeted network of smart sensors that will lay the foundation for creating a "sustainability lens" for the city. The demo will include an actual sensor unit for hands-on interaction, a live data feed from deployed air quality sensor units in San Jose, an actual Air Quality sensor unit and a visual overview of the project. This public-private partnership is a research project that employs one of many possible use cases for this "smart city" technology, and supports the broader San Jose Green Vision to help drive economic growth, foster CleanTech jobs, create environmental sustainability and enhance the quality of life for its residents.

18-Smart Rooftop
The demonstration of the "Intelligent Rooftop" will show a rooftop HVAC unit with operating state information on subsystems and energy consumption and how it would enable a scenario in which a change in energy demand would generate a beneficial response from the system. A live data feed will be available from Arizona during the demonstration.

19-Cyber-Secure Synchrophasor and Security Fabric
This demo will show a comprehensive new security solution for power grid-related critical infrastructure that protects all platforms, applications and data required for intelligent operations. It provides embedded and network security and management and is currently in U.S. Department of Energy field trials.

20-Closed Loop Healthcare
We will demonstrate an in-home sensor monitoring and health alert system, showing two months of in-home data before a fall event and two months of data after the patient returns home from a hospital stay (including motion sensor, bed sensor and walking gait data). Videos of falls will be shown and used to trigger an alert sent as email and text messages. Subtle in-home changes after the hospital stay generate health alerts to allow early intervention and prevent re-hospitalization.
