Strategic Goal: High Performance Building Systems

To enable the design and operation of cost-effective building systems that deliver healthy and comfortable indoor environments through advances in measurement science and in technical support of industry-consensus standards and guidelines.

EL research advances progress toward greater performance in the built environment.  Our programs focus on cross-cutting technical work such as metrics and assessment tools; approaches to achieve improved indoor environmental quality with cost savings; and life cycle performance prediction and assessment tools.

Through research that stretches the limits of measurement science and pushes the envelope of current measurement and test capabilities, EL will:

  • Improve building operations to achieve high-performance, occupant comfort, and safety by clearing technical hurdles that impede widespread use of intelligent building systems;
  • Underpin significant U.S. progress toward realizing high-performance buildings with a healthy indoor environment; and
  • Deliver standards and tools key to achieving high-performance building systems.
