Time and Frequency Metrology and Distribution

The scope of the time and frequency metrology and distribution activities conducted by the division is extraordinarily broad, encompassing everything from audio signals utilizing telephone lines to state-of-the-art optical clock research and development programs. These activities span an incredible 16 orders of magnitude of measurement accuracy, ranging from about 1 x 10-3 (one part per thousand) to about 1 x 10-18 (one part per quintillion).
