nSoft utilizes a unique combination of advanced measurement science and customer engagement to work toward the broader NIST mission "to promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life." Key to achieving this mission are the goals of nSoft, namely to:
1. provide predictable and timely access to neutron facilities and nSoft research projects executed by nSoft staff, leading to increased use of neutron-based measurements by industrial members.
2. use member engagement to define and develop sample environments, measurement methods, instrumentation, and data analysis techniques that are ultimately transferred to and utilized by members and the NIST Center for Neutron Research user program.
3. increase the scientific capacity and depth of member institutions and NIST core competencies through collaborative participation in research, use of training programs, and leveraging expertise within the Materials Science and Engineering Division.
