Meeting of the IEEE Standards Working Group P-1622 on Voting Systems Electronic Data Interchange

Announcement, Meeting of the IEEE Standards Working Group P-1622 on

Voting Systems Electronic Data Interchange

October 24 - 25, 2011

Location: National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD

IEEE Standards Working Group P-1622 on Voting Systems Electronic Data Interchange will hold a two-day meeting in Gaithersburg MD, beginning October 24th at 9 AM until mid-afternoon on October 25th. The meeting will be held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg MD, Building 222, Room A314.

The purpose of the meeting is twofold: to present an overview and in-depth tutorial on the P-1622 draft Standard on Blank Ballot Distribution for Voting Systems, and to discuss next use cases proposed for development and to examine the aspects of OASIS Election Markup Language (EML) corresponding to these use cases. Other P-1622 working group business will be conducted at the meeting as well.

Manufacturers of election equipment and election officials are especially urged to attend this meeting, as their input is vital to the standardization process. The tutorial on the draft Standard on Blank Ballot Distribution for Voting Systems will be of interest to those manufacturers and U.S. States supporting the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) and the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act. The meeting will be of interest in general to those wishing to better understand the importance of a common data format for election systems and how to assist with this standardization effort.
