Desert Gold Food Company Strikes Gold with an LED Lighting Retrofit

With the help of: Manufacture Nevada

About

Located in the heart of the Desert Southwest, Desert Gold Food Company is a privately owned and operated foodservice distributor based in Las Vegas, proudly serving the foodservice industry for over 50 years. It has built a reputation for delivering high-quality seafood throughout the region.

The Challenge

The Desert Gold Company's original lighting system was inefficient, costly to maintain, and provided inconsistent illumination, especially in cold storage and processing areas. Inadequate lighting increased energy bills and reduced employee comfort.

Key challenges included:

  • High monthly electricity costs
  • Frequent lighting maintenance and replacements
  • Inconsistent lighting levels in critical work zones
  • Desire to reduce their environmental footprint

The lighting upgrade was a game-changer for our operations. Not only are we seeing real cost savings, but the improved lighting has made our facility brighter, safer, and more efficient. It’s a win across the board.

— Michael Orr, Director of Operations

MEP's Role

Desert Gold Food Company has significantly reduced its energy consumption by upgrading to high-efficiency lighting across its manufacturing facility. The project not only lowered operating costs but also improved overall lighting quality, contributing to a safer, more productive environment.

Desert Gold Food Company collaborated with Manufacture Nevada to identify an energy-efficient lighting solution and a qualified provider to implement a full LED lighting retrofit across the facility, including:

  • Manufacturing and processing floors
  • Cold storage units
  • Loading docks
  • Offices and common areas

The project included a comprehensive audit of the existing lighting infrastructure, a custom LED lighting design and installation, and coordination of utility rebates. Smart lighting controls were also added in select areas to maximize efficiency.
