In case you missed last month's meeting, the minutes from the October 24, 2023, NICE Community Coordinating Council meeting have been published. The meeting included speakers from the Virginia Cyber Range, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Gallup, and more!

Standing Items

Report Roundup
Maureen Lawrence-Kuether from the Virginia Cyber Range shared an overview of the Cybersecurity Career Capture the Flag (CTF) Competition held in support of Cybersecurity Career Week. An Introduction to CTFs webinar was also held to help participants who were new to CTFs.

Framework Feature
Anastacia Webster from CISA and James Ashley from California State University, San Bernardino spoke about TryCyber, a new platform that enables exploration of cybersecurity work. The platform, still in beta release, features 14 micro-challenges, 10 of which are based on NICE Framework Work Roles.

Research Review
Drew Curtis from Gallup provided a briefing on How Role Models Influence Career Awareness and Attainment. Research revealed that 50% of respondents did not remember receiving career education in middle or high school.


Working Group and Community of Interest Updates

The Promote Career Discovery Working Group held a webinar during Cybersecurity Career Week to provide insight on career paths and how best to gain traction on career success. 

The Transform Learning Process Working Group has put together a new project team that is exploring the topic of talent retention.

The Competitions Community of Interest has finalized three papers: a guide on Cyber Ranges, things to know about Building a Competition, and a Competition Guide for Competitors

The NICE Framework Users Group held an open call to discuss cybersecurity in space. Featured speaker, William Ferguson, shared how his organization leverages the NICE Framework to train space cybersecurity professionals.

Project Progress Reports

Cybersecurity Career Week was held October 16-21, 2023. Approximately more than 250,000 individuals worldwide were impacted via over 750 events, over 70 webinars and podcasts, 15 competitions, and more. 

The NICE K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference will feature the National Cyber Signing Day. Regular registration is open until November 22, 2023.

The NICE Conference and Expo Call for Proposals is open until January 22, 2024.  


Featured Topic

Connie Bragg provided an overview of the newly launched Cybersecurity Career Ambassador Program and introduced herself as a co-chair of the new Cybersecurity Career Ambassador Community of Interest. A webinar was held on October 18, 2023, to provide information about the Program.

Join our next meeting on November 28, 2023 at 3:30-5pm ET
NOTE: The November and December meetings have been combined to avoid conflicts with the holidays. The November 28th meeting will be our final meeting of the year. 

The NICE Community Coordinating Council meets monthly to engage with public and private sector participants on cybersecurity education, training, and workforce development topics. 

Additionally, the NICE Community Coordinating Council is comprised of three Working Groups and five Communities of Interest, each with their own meeting cadence.
