The company produces private label confections and snacks for many national retailers, works with specialty confection entrepreneurs to innovate new products, while also providing contract manufacturing services for large snack and confectionery companies throughout the Northeast. Wolfgang Confectioners employs 97 people at their plants.

The Challenge

Wolfgang was seeking to upgrade the skillset of two associates from their current Six Sigma Yellow Belt foundation to a Green Belt level. Wolfgang Confectioners first engaged with MANTEC, part of the Pennsylvania MEP and the MEP National Network™, in 2020 for Six Sigma training and project facilitation. Since then, they have continued to use MANTEC for Six Sigma training to improve their continuous improvement team.
We appreciate our relationship with MANTEC. As a 100-year-old start-up, we face unique new challenges as we have changed our business format from fundraising to being a co-manufacturer and experiencing explosive growth. MANTEC has helped us honor our commitment to continuous improvement and staff development.
— Tonya Nye, Director of Customer Logistics

MEP's Role

MANTEC’s expert worked with Wolfgang Confectioners to evaluate their current quality standards and created a plan to improve their processes. The training provided included instruction that built on the fundamental principles of Six Sigma. It also included onsite project work that identified and solved a unique quality issue using the principles learned in the coursework allowing training participants to apply their learning in a real-world, practical setting.
