Section 2: How to Search for NIST Jobs and Prepare to Apply

All NIST job opportunities are posted on USAJOBS.gov. Before submitting an application, you must create an account, build your profile, and locate vacancy announcements that match your experience and career interests.

Create Or Update Your USAJobs Profile

To apply for any federal position, including NIST jobs, you must have:

  • A login.gov account, and
  • A USAJOBS profile connected to that account.

You can create or update your account using the USAJOBS profile guide:

https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/how-to/account/profile/

Your USAJOBS profile allows you to:

  • Store resumes and supporting documents
  • Manage saved searches
  • Track application status
  • Receive notifications when new positions are posted

Be sure to review your profile information for accuracy before applying.

How To Find NIST Job Announcements

You can view all currently open NIST positions on USAJOBS at:

https://www.usajobs.gov/Search/Results?a=CM57&p=1

To refine your search results, you may use filters such as:

  • Location (for example, Gaithersburg, Boulder, or other NIST duty stations)
  • Career field or occupational series
  • Pay band or salary range
  • Work schedule (for example, full-time)
  • Hiring path (for example, Open to the Public, Federal Employees, Students, Veterans)

You may also save your search to receive email alerts when new NIST positions are posted.

Submitting Applications Through USAJobs

NIST accepts applications only through the USAJOBS online application system. Applications submitted by email, mail, or other methods cannot be accepted.

If you require a reasonable accommodation to complete any part of the application process, each vacancy announcement includes instructions for requesting assistance.

Once an application is submitted, changes generally cannot be made after the announcement closes.

After selecting a position, review the vacancy announcement carefully and follow all instructions provided under the How to Apply section.

Preparing To Apply

Before starting an application, applicants are encouraged to:

  • Ensure resumes and supporting documents are up to date
  • Review the Qualifications section to verify eligibility
  • Gather all required documentation listed under Required Documents
  • Allow adequate time to complete the online application and any required assessments

Applications must be submitted before the closing date and time listed in the announcement.
