X-Ray Spectrometer Having 12 000 Resolving Power at 8 keV Energy

May 14, 2018
Author(s)
Lawrence T. Hudson, John F. Seely, Uri Feldman, Albert Henins
An x-ray spectrometer employing a thin (50 μm) silicon transmission crystal was used to record high-resolution Cu Kα spectra from a laboratory x-ray source. The diffraction was from the (331) planes that were at an angle of 13.26° to the crystal surface

Using Temperature to Reduce Noise in Quantum Frequency Conversion

May 12, 2018
Author(s)
Paulina Kuo, Jason S. Pelc, Carsten Langrock, M. M. Fejer
A main source of noise in quantum frequency conversion is spontaneous Raman scattering, which can be reduced by lowering the operating temperature. We show reduction in dark count rates that agrees well with theory.

Opportunities and Challenges in Implementation of Multiparameter Single Cell Analysis Platforms for Clinical Translation

May 11, 2018
Author(s)
susan M. Keating, D. Lansing Taylor, Anne L. Plant, E. David Litwack, Peter Kuhn, Emily J. Greenspan, Christopher M. Hartshorn, Caroline C. Sigman, Gary J. Kelloff, Gregory Friberg, Jerry S. Lee, Keisuke Kuida
The high-content interrogation of single cells with platforms optimized for the multiparameter characterization of cells in liquid and solid biopsy samples can enable characterization of heterogeneous populations of cells ex vivo. Doing so will advance the

Carrier Density Control of Magnetism and Berry Phases in Doped EuTiO 3

May 10, 2018
Author(s)
Kaveh Ahadi, Zhigang Gui, Zach Porter, Jeffrey W. Lynn, Zhijun Xu, Stephen D. Wilson, Anderson Janotti, Susanne Stemmer
In materials with broken time-reversal symmetry, the Berry curvature acts as a reciprocal space magnetic field on the conduction electrons and is significant contribution to the magnetotransport properties, including to the intrinsic anomalous Hall effect

Energy Renormalization Method for the Coarse-Graining of Polymer Viscoelasticity

May 10, 2018
Author(s)
Jake Song, David D. Hsu, Kenneth R. Shull, Frederick R. Phelan Jr., Jack F. Douglas, Wenjie Xia, Sinan Keten
Developing time and temperature transferable coarse-grained (CG) models is essential for the computational prediction and design of polymeric glass-forming materials, but this goal has remained elusive. The dynamics of CG models are often greatly altered

Quick Start Guide for Populating Mobile Test Devices

May 10, 2018
Author(s)
Richard Ayers, Benjamin R. Livelsberger, Barbara Guttman
This guide provides procedures for documenting and populating various data elements typically found within the contents of a mobile device, e.g., mobile phone, tablet, etc. The guide discusses techniques and considerations for preparing the internal memory

The Influence of Annealing Temperature and Time on the Formation of delta-Phase in Additively-Manufactured Inconel 625

May 10, 2018
Author(s)
Mark R. Stoudt, Eric Lass, Daniel S. Ng, Maureen E. Williams, Fan Zhang, Carelyn E. Campbell, Greta Lindwall, Lyle E. Levine
This research evaluated the kinetics of delta-phase growth in laser powder bed additively- manufactured (AM) Inconel 625 during post-build stress-relief heat treatments. The temperatures ranged between 650 °C to 1050 °C, and the times from 0.25 h to 168 h
