A significant update was undertaken to modernize STRBase and make it more user-friendly. This project aimed to ensure that the website remains a relevant and valuable resource for the forensic community, providing easy access to up-to-date information on STR markers and related topics. The updated site retains its core mission of supporting scientific research and practice in forensic genetics while incorporating new features and functionalities that improve the overall user experience.
Key goals accomplished with the update:
The updated site went live in April 2023. The original site was moved to an archive site to help with the transition to the new site. From the beginning, the archive site was not updated. In June 2025, it was removed from the public domain.
Today, STRBase remains a vital resource for researchers, practitioners, and educators in forensic genetics. The site remains a trusted source of information on STR markers, and its database of variant and tri-allelic STRs continues to grow. With its updated interface and expanded resources, STRBase is poised to remain a leading online resource for the forensic community for years to come.
