Electrical Safety Training Yields Jobs and Cost Savings

About

Thermo Fisher Scientific's Marietta, Ohio facility is a manufacturing site specializing in laboratory equipment, particularly biosafety cabinets, for the medical and scientific sectors. The plant employs about 458 people and is part of a worldwide network of manufacturing and service locations.

The Challenge

Thermo Fisher needed to train new and transitional employees outside the regular annual training due to staffing issues.
Dawn Coleman and the OSU South Centers MEP provided an excellent solution and training opportunity for us. Their flexibility in expanding their service offerings to meet our specific needs is one of the key reasons we consider the MEP to be such a valuable partner.
— Lauren Morgan, HR Manager

MEP's Role

The OSU South Centers MEP, in partnership with Rozel Consultants, provided an annual electrical safety field audit of qualified electrical workers as required by NFPA 70E 110.2 Training Requirements. The scope of the audit was to ensure workers were complying with the safety-related work practices described in NFPA 70E and the employer's written electrical safety program. The audit was documented for the employer's records, and feedback detailing areas for improvement, as well as reinforcement of positive behaviors, was provided by the auditor to both the employee being audited and the employer.
