Harsco Rail Makes New Investments, Sees Cost Savings, and Retains Jobs Following SCMEP’s Blueprint Reading Workshops

About

Located in West Columbia, South Carolina, Harsco Rail's origins started in 1909 with the foundation of Fairmont Railway Motors. Throughout the years, the company has grown with the times, adjusting products and services to meet industry demands. Today, Harsco Rail is positioned to develop and deliver new ideas for maintaining track structures around the world.

The Challenge

Harsco Rail was looking to improve the ability of the assembly team in reading blueprints to reduce errors. The company wished to have three waves of training for up to 36 associates. Harsco turned to trusted advisor SCMEP, part of the MEP National Network™, for help.

We appreciate working with SCMEP and found their knowledge and expertise to be helpful in our ability to grow.

— Debbie Fales, Director of Operational Excellence

MEP's Role

SCMEP was able to deliver the Blueprint Reading workshop on-site using Harsco Rail prints. SCMEP’s expert resource delivered three, one-day, workshops which included the following content: Intro to Blueprint Reading; Lines; Views; and Dimensioning and Tolerance.
