Preparing for Change

The Peebles Monument Company has been etching stories in stone since 1922. The are located in Peebles, Ohio, and have 8 employees. They provide Adams county the surrounding areas with monuments, grave markers, pet memorials, and other etched stone products.

As many small manufacturers do, Peebles Monument Company utilizes QuickBooks for all of their financial recording keeping and billing. The problem that needed addressed is that QuickBooks is going to an online format that requires new training and a large learning curve. Being such a small company they simply could not afford the time that it would take to "self-teach" this new version of the online software.

The OSU South Centers MEP, part of the Ohio MEP and the MEP National Network™, conducted a class for in-person QuickBooks training. This training was a three session course. It included Intro, Daily Basics I, and Daily Basics II and was hosted in our OSU South Centers MEP conference room. Peebles Monument Company was able to learn the initial setup of QuickBooks online through daily use including foundational knowledge and vocabulary, the setting up and creating of a chart of accounts, and utilizing actual invoices and receipts from their business to learn. Other parts of the training were: Creating and maintaining a set of books, managing revenue and expenses, and creating and paying bills, and writing checks.
