OSHA Top 10 Site Walk Through at RAM

About

Founded in 1975 as RAM Company, RAM Aviation, Space & Defense of St. George, Utah, has grown to become a premier supplier of actuation products, namely Solenoid valves, linear and rotary solenoids, and check and relief valves. From small beginnings with engine manufacturers, RAM ASD now supplies products and services to hundreds of major players in all the aviation, space, and defense markets.

The Challenge

While attending the OSHA 30-hour training this year, the Utah Manufacturers Association (UMA) part of the Utah-MEP Alliance, part of the MEP National Network™, offered to provide RAM AS&D with an in-depth Site Walk focusing on the top 10 most common citations by OSHA/UOSH.
I look forward to addressing many of these items found in this year's walk and having UMA return in 2024 to see what else they can help us identify. UMA, part of the Utah-MEP, will likely find more opportunities and help us keep improving the work environment for our team each day. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our team members; we want them to go home in as good, if not better, condition than when they arrived each day.
— Michael Olsen, RAM AS&D Facilities Manager

MEP's Role

After spending a good portion of the day walking the 120,000-sq.-ft. facility, focusing deeply on the higher-risk areas, UMA staff came away with many opportunities for improvement. Most importantly, the consultants came away with many ideas and solutions on how to address those opportunities. With other services, consultants simply walked away with a “to-do” list and left a very high level of stress and deadlines to avoid citations. With UMA, they walked away leaving RAM AS&D more aware, informed, and ready to start talking about the opportunities identified, free from the pressure of the threat of fines and citations.
