Horton, Inc. Incorporates SCMEP’s Work Instruction Development within Workforce Practices to Avoid Unnecessary Investment

About

Founded in 1951, Horton’s newest engine cooling manufacturing plant opened in Oconee County, South Carolina, in the spring of 2020. The facility includes a brand new e-coat line, powder coat booth for custom component painting, injection molding machines, and state-of-the-art machining and other manufacturing equipment. Horton continues to be a pioneer in the on- and off-highway industries by providing the latest technology, the highest quality, and the most dependable products available.

The Challenge

Horton Holding was looking for documented guidelines that clarified how to perform certain assignments for the shipping and operations departments. Precise descriptions of task-related steps to reduce possible setbacks, damages, and inconveniences were needed.

SCMEP was very thorough and able to accommodate amendments after review.

— Kellie Boone , Human Resource Manager

MEP's Role

SCMEP, part of the MEP National Network™, recommended work instruction development for the company. First, a consult was held with Horton’s subject matter experts to develop new WIs for the shipping and operations departments. Following video of the processes, SCMEP’s resources used the footage to develop draft WIs and eLessons. Once approved, final copies of all WIs and eLessons were provided. All footage captured was made available for Horton to copy.
