BSP Filing Solutions - Site Master Planning Project

BSP Filing Solutions, located in Kosciusko, Mississippi, is a manufacturer of paper-based filing products. The plant produces several thousand variations of primarily file folders, from general-use, large-scale production runs, to very specialized industry-specific products, with smaller lot quantities.

BSP consisted of a 78,000-square-foot production facility and a 77,000-square-foot warehouse, separated by a half mile. The frequent truck trips between these locations, compounded by the need for additional resources, resulted in significant operational inefficiencies. BSP sought the assistance of MMA-MEP’s affiliate center, Mississippi State University CAVS Extension (CAVS-E), , part of the MEP National Network™, to evaluate their current manufacturing and warehouse space and make recommendations on layout designs to improve the efficiencies within their organization.

MSU CAVS-E collaborated with BSP on a site master planning project to understand and document current production challenges while simultaneously evaluating the physical infrastructure requirements for a proposed consolidation. With the support of MSU-CAVSE, BSP created a layout of their warehouse facility capable of accommodating all their operations. Over a subsequent six-month period, they successfully relocated all operations to this consolidated location. This move resulted in streamlined workflow by eliminating the need for travel between separate locations and mitigating communication issues arising from this physical separation.
