Emersion Designs Journey to Cybersecurity Compliance Eased by MEP

About

Emersion Design advances clients who advance society. Emersion assists their clients by engineering beautiful, strategic, cost effective, and highly sustainable spaces, buildings, and master plans. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Emersion has assembled a diverse and rich team made up of 25+ subject matter experts that represent the best in architecture, planning, interior design, structural engineering, and sustainability.

The Challenge

Emersion Design's leadership team is very customer-focused and because of that dedication and the amount of government entities Emersion serves, its IT team proactively sought to become cybersecurity compliant based on the current DFARS language and NIST SP 800-171 security framework. In addition, Emersion wanted to work toward compliance remediation in anticipation of the upcoming CMMC Level III requirements. Emersion's team did not have the knowledge, time, or capacity to complete its assessment, data classification, remediation, documentation, and internal training; so it sought a collaborative partner that had experience helping with assessments, testing, remediation, policy writing, and training. Emersion turned to TechSolve, part of the Ohio MEP and the MEP National Network™.
I would like to take a moment to thank TechSolve for being so instrumental in guiding Emersion Design in becoming NIST 800-171 and CMMC compliant. When we initially started the process with TechSolve, the whole notion of obtaining this goal seemed pretty overwhelming. Nick, Glen and Serge were very professional and knowledgeable about what needed to be done. Serge’s attention to detail is second to none. He did an excellent job keeping us in the loop with changes and updates. I can honestly say that I don’t know how we would’ve been able to do this without Serge and TechSolve. I feel like the level of commitment to the project and the resulting documentation would not have been matched if we received the service elsewhere.

MEP's Role

TechSolve's cybersecurity team completed a cybersecurity assessment, testing, remediation, data classification, policy writing, and documentation of the entire organization's cybersecurity process in order to assist Emersion Design to be in compliance with the current DFARS language and report its cybersecurity compliance score, based on the Interim Rule, according to DFARS 252.204-7012 and the NIST 800-171 security framework. TechSolve additionally delivered cybersecurity and IT training in order to prepare them for future CMMC compliance. Topics in the training included secure data handling; insider threat; social engineering; email and social media; identity and access management; clean desk, clear screen; and  Emersion cybersecurity and IT policies.
