OSHA Training for Tecumseh Products

About

Tecumseh’s Products has two facilities in Mississippi. Tecumseh's Tupelo facility was brought on line in 1975 as a compressor plant. It now produces compressors and condensing units and also is the North American distribution hub, serving customers in the United States, Canada, Mexico and abroad. Tecumseh also has a plant located in Verona, Mississippi. Tecumseh Products Company has invested a total of $10 million in its facility located in Verona, MS and created 60 additional jobs in the last two years. The company currently has 305 employees.

The Challenge

Tecumseh is consolidating its Canadian operations to Verona. The Verona facility began manufacturing the company’s AK2 line of compressors. Tecumseh need assistance with improving their safety skills for managers and production workers.
The total $10 million investment with $4.6 million in state-funded incentives, helped Tecumseh prosper in what has become a highly competitive market with other manufacturers in Eastern Europe, India and China, and working with MMA-MEP Center at Itawamba Community College resulted in $100,000,000 in retained sales.
— Alan Jones, Production Manager

MEP's Role

MMA-MEP Center at Itawamba Community College (ICC) delivered OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 General Industry classes to hourly and management personnel. ICC workforce safety experts conducted multiple plant tours performing assessments in order to provide additional consultation on safety related questions and concerns that resulted from the OSHA training classes.
