KMIN USA, Inc Implements IATF 16949 QMS

About

KMIN USA, INC., a South Korean-based auto parts manufacturer and subsidiary of Kwang Myung Industry Co. Ltd., is located in Valley, Alabama.  KMIN is the company’s first manufacturing plant located in the United States.  With 200 employees, they manufacture and assemble parts for automobile seats as well as ancillary parts.  KMIN is a Tier 2 automotive supplier to Hyundai Dymos, a Tier 1 supplier to the Kia assembly plant in West Point, Georgia.

The Challenge

KMIN USA, located in Valley, AL, was required by their customer to become IATF 16949:2016 certified.  If KMIN USA did not achieve this certification by March 2018, it potentially could have lost the business in its entirety.

I am proud that during our first attempt at acquiring IATF 16949 Certification with the outstanding guidance of Alabama Technology Network (ATN) we achieved our goal. We recently conducted our surveillance audit with our registrar and performed very well with no major nonconformances.  I know that without the consultation and guidance from ATN we would have not been able to meet our customers’ requirements nor acquire new business for the company. We are very pleased with the performance of ATN and will continue to use their services in the future.
— Heavena Black, QMS Coordinator

MEP's Role

Alabama Technolgoy Network (ATN), part of the MEP National Network™, worked closely with KMIN staff over the course of six months to create processes, procedures, work instructions and other requirements necessary to become IATF 16949:2016 certified.  In addition, ATN conducted a 2-day internal audit of the quality management system and provided training on the automotive core tools to help meet this goal.
