Rajant Corporation is a designer and manufacturer of fully mobile private wireless networks for defense and commercial applications, such as the oil and gas industry, transportation, and any application where communication integration is needed. Their systems can link satellite, fiber, LTE and fixed wireless networks where node-to-node connectivity is required. Their South operation, located in Morehead, KY, performs manufacturing, assembly and test operations for a portion of their product lines.

The Challenge

As a direct supplier to major tier one suppliers for the department of defense as well as major corporations, it was suggested that Rajant would benefit by becoming certified to the ISO 9001 Standard. This would allow their customers or prospective customers, before placing an order with Rajant Corporation, to have a firm grasp and understanding of Rajant’s quality management system.
The support and insight received from the AKA/SKED team was invaluable and deeply appreciated. The entire team was instrumental in assisting us with expertise and knowledge, allowing us to have our audit with 0 minors, 0 majors and 5 ‘opportunities for improvement’. MEP's Role

Rajant joined a consortia of east Kentucky manufacturers put together by the Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation (SKED) who partnered with the Advantage Kentucky Alliance (AKA),  part of the MEP National Network™, to assist participant companies with the development and implementation of an ISO 9001 compliant quality management system.

As a part of the program, AKA provided Rajant with training and company-centric activities, such as group training, documentation writing, auditor training and auditing to assist them with the development of a quality management system that met all the requirements of the ISO 9001 Standard and that allowed Rajant to become certified to the ISO 9001 Standard, which they have accomplished.

The program was broken into group training sessions and individual company development and implementation sessions conducted at the company’s facility. With training of the requirements of the standard conducted in the group sessions, companies can prompt each other to ask questions and hear other’s questions to gain a better understanding of all of the requirements. Then, in the on-site sessions, each AKA works with each company’s product line and situation to develop a quality management system tailored to their needs.
