Welcome to the NIST Health IT Program Legacy Website.
As part of the sunsetting and transition of the NIST Health IT Program, this site serves as the central repository for accessing transitioned tools, historical information, transition timelines, source code, and data migration instructions for all NIST HL7 conformance testing tools and other tools and services.
While the NIST Health IT Program is ending, many of the core conformance and testing tools are being transitioned to external organizations—primarily Prometheus Computing, LLC—to ensure they remain maintained, updated, and publicly available for the health IT community.

What You Need to Know
Tool Dispositions
Every tool in the NIST Health IT portfolio has been assigned a specific disposition path:
- Archived: Legacy tools that are no longer actively supported are being taken offline and archived.
- Transitioned to Prometheus Computing: Core tools are migrating to Prometheus Computing’s AWS infrastructure. Active development, future bug fixes, and user support will continue under their management.
- Transitioned to Other Organizations: Selected tools are being adopted by partner organizations such as the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprises (IHE).
Tool Disposition Definitions Details
Note: All tools and projects will be archived on the NIST Repository regardless if they are being transition or not. This provides a snapshot of the project and is an option for users and organizations to fork and use.

‼ Critical Action Required: Account and Data Transfer Process
For tools migrating to Prometheus Computing, user account and data transfer requires an explicit opt-in through an online consent form. User data will not be transferred automatically. If consent is not provided, account and data will not be transferred and will essentially be deleted.
- Opt-In Consent Process: Users must complete an online consent form to authorize the transfer of their account and data to tools hosted by Prometheus Computing.
- Completing the consent form indicates that you agree to have your account and data transferred.
- If consent is not provided, your account and data will not be transferred.
- Opt-In Period: Users must complete the applicable consent form between June 24, 2026, to July 31, 2026.
- Transfer Timeline: Data transfer is scheduled to occur during the week of August 17, 2026. NIST-hosted tools will go offline once a successful transfer is confirmed.

Source Code Availability & Local Installations
Legacy source code are available for download, allowing organizations to fork repositories and install the tools locally.

To determine if a tool is being maintained and updated by another organization review the GitHub history for that tool.
