Welcome to the NIST Health IT Program Legacy Website.

As part of the sunsetting and transition of the NIST Health IT Program, this site serves as the central repository for accessing transitioned tools, historical information, transition timelines, source code, and data migration instructions for all NIST HL7 conformance testing tools and other tools and services.

While the NIST Health IT Program is ending, many of the core conformance and testing tools are being transitioned to external organizations—primarily Prometheus Computing, LLC—to ensure they remain maintained, updated, and publicly available for the health IT community.

What You Need to Know

Tool Dispositions & New Locations

Every tool in the NIST Health IT portfolio has been assigned a specific disposition path:

• Transitioned to Prometheus Computing: Core tools are migrating to Prometheus Computing’s AWS infrastructure. Active development, future bug fixes, and user support will continue under their management.
• Transitioned to Other Organizations: Selected tools are being adopted by partner organizations such as the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprises (IHE).
• Archived: Legacy tools that are no longer actively supported are being taken offline and archived.

The Tables below provide a summary of the tool dispositions and a link to more details.

Local Installations & Source Code Availability

Regardless of their transition path, all tools and projects will be archived on the NIST Repository to provide a historical snapshot for the community. The tools are in the public domain.

• GitHub & Docker: Legacy source code and Docker Compose files are available for download, allowing organizations to fork repositories and install the tools locally. Access to the legacy and current source code and docker compose files can be found here: Online Excel Spreadsheet.
• Important Note on Local Installations: If you choose to install and host a tool locally, future updates, security patches, and data model changes will not be automatically reflected. Over time, this may lead to incompatible or invalid test data if you attempt to sync with newer, actively maintained versions.

‼ Critical Action Required: User Account & Data Transfer

For tools migrating to Prometheus Computing, user data will not be transferred automatically due to privacy regulations. Action is required to prevent your data from being permanently deleted:

• Opt-In Consent Period: Users must complete an online consent form between June 17, 2026, and August 7, 2026, to authorize the migration of their accounts and data. Tools that require consent include:
  • IGAMT-2: link to consent form
  • TCAMT: link to consent form
  • FITS: Link to consent form
  • GVT: No consent for needed explicitly; users must consent to IGAMT-2 and TCAMT (if applicable) and follow the re-push process to re-establish user owned tools in GVT.
• Migration Timeline: Data transfers will occur during the week of August 17, 2026. Once a successful transfer is confirmed, the legacy NIST hosted instances will go offline.
• If you do not provide consent within this window, your account and historical data will be permanently deleted when the NIST infrastructure is decommissioned.
• Other Tools and Services: For all other tools and services, no account data will be transferred. For tools that have user account and configuration data, users will need to re-establish on the new hosting site.
