The NIST Emergency Services Office (ESO) is a function support office for NIST Management Resources Directorate. ESO provides NIST staff, visitors, guest researchers, and contractors a secure environment for them to operate and work by providing services such as access control, emergency preparedness, fire prevention training, and response. These services help our staff protect the information they produce, and ensure compliance with all security, fire, and emergency management standards and best practices. The work the ESO Staff performs helps ensure that NIST meets all its strategic goals and objectives for years to come.
Provides medical/hazmat/fire response, inspection and maintenance programs, and training.
Ensures compliance of the standards and requirements set forth by the Dept. of Homeland Security, the Interagency Security Committee, and the Dept. of Commerce – Office of Security. The SCG provides technical support, evaluation, guidance, and training on NIST’s physical security-related policies and services.
Manages Continuity of Operations (COOP), the Occupant Emergency Plan (OEP), the Emergency Notification System (ENS), emergency management, and incident support.
Oversees access control (systems, hardware, and locksmith services), out-of-hours access, intrusion detection, video surveillance system (VSS), badging, new construction/renovation support, ISC countermeasures, and NRC-enhanced security requirements.
