Investigatory Voice Biometrics

In 2009 NIST began a joint effort with the FBI to conduct research supporting the creation of voice biometric standards for the U.S. Government. Following a technical symposium and review of the resulting Investigatory Voice Biometrics' committee reports (2011), the ANSI/NIST-ITL standard was identified as the logical place to concentrate efforts

Over the next year the Investigatory Voice Biometrics Committee (with representation from NIST, FBI, MIT-LL, and selected expert consultants) worked to produce a functional draft of the Type-11 Record aimed to seed a Voice Supplement to the ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011 standard.

Current Status:

  • The first round of Public Comment for the draft Voice Supplement for the ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011 Standard has been completed. Thanks to all who provided comments.
  • A meeting was held at NIST on November 20, 2012 to address the comments received, with this Final Disposition of Comments.
  • The current draft Voice Supplement for the ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011 Standard is available and tracks the responses to the public comments.
  • The ANSI/NIST Standard Workshop 2013 was held January 28-30 at NIST, and included a review of the Forensic and Investigatory Voice Supplement to the standard.
  • A meeting of the Voice Standard Working Group was held on March 22, 2013 at NIST to address comments on the latest version of the Voice Supplement Document.

Below describes the immediate schedule:

  • Additional comments are requested on the current draft Voice Supplement for the ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2011 Standard, and should be submitted to NIST (voice_poc [at] nist.gov (voice_poc[at]nist[dot]gov)) using the commenting form.
