Release of RM 8043 - Forensic DNA Resource Materials

Forensic DNA Resource Materials

  • Intended to assist in forensic DNA internal validation efforts by providing a common supplemental sample set
  • The informed consent allows for the sharing of samples and data
  • Can be used as training samples within a laboratory and in research studies (peer-reviewed publications)
Reference Material 8043
Credit: NIST
RM 8043 contains eight samples - including three DNA mixtures, as well as two samples degraded by UV light

RM 8043 will retain the same sample format as the RGTM 10235. However, as this is not an SRM, the information provided differs. NIST-provided values in an RM are stated as non-certified values.

The RM will include quantity (ng/µL) and allele calls (from CE, not sequencing) for the CODIS 20 aSTRs, and those from Y STR kits.

Note that external materials can not be made traceable to an RM, nor can an RM satisfy the QAS requirement for a certified reference material (e.g., SRM 2391d).

Released February 19, 2026
