Sean Lehman works in the Bioprocess Measurements Group on issues of soft particle metrology using light scattering techniques. Current work involves the development of lipid nanoparticle reference materials and measurements of the same along with characterization of virus-like particles including AAV. Expertise involved particle measurements using asymmetric flow field flow fractionation (AF4) and-more recently-learning the technique of analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC). Prior to joining NIST, Sean spent time in 3D printed soft materials during his postdoctoral work at the University of Illinois, where he developed 3D printed plasmonic cell culture scaffolds. During his Ph.D. work he mostly focused on the synthesis, characterization, and applications of mesoporous silica nanoparticles with particular emphasis on magnetic spectroscopy of functionalized silica nanoparticles in aqueous environments.
