Craig Nelson (Fed)

Craig Nelson is an Electronics Engineer and the Leader of the Phase Noise Metrology Group in the Time and Frequency Division. His involvement in this group spans over three decades, and he has extensive experience in research areas involving phase and amplitude noise metrology, calibration, low-phase noise electronics, FPGA-based digital control, instrument control, and measurement systems. Craig received the B.S degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1990. He is a member of technical and organizing committees of the IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium. Craig has been teaching phase noise metrology for more than 20 years, in the form of tutorials presented at many Time and Frequency conferences and seminars.

Oscillator PM-noise reduction from correlated AM-noise

Author(s)
Archita Hati, Craig W. Nelson, David A. Howe
We demonstrate a novel technique for reducing the phase modulation (PM) noise of an oscillator in steady state as well as under vibration. It utilizes

State-of-the-Art RF Signal Generation From Optical Frequency Division

Archita Hati, Craig W. Nelson, Corey A. Barnes, Danielle G. Lirette, Tara M. Fortier, Franklyn J. Quinlan, Jason A. DeSalvo, Andrew D. Ludlow, Till P. Rosenband, Scott A. Diddams, David A. Howe
We present the design of a novel, ultra-low phase-noise frequency synthesizer implemented with extremely low noise regenerative frequency dividers. This

A Sub-Sampling Digital PM/AM Noise Measurement System

Author(s)
Craig W. Nelson, David A. Howe
A digital phase/amplitude modulation (PM/AM) noise measurement systems (DNMS) implementing field progammable gate array (FPGA) based digital down converters

Relative Intensity Noise Suppression for Photonic Links

Author(s)
Craig Nelson, Archita Hati, David A. Howe
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel technique to reduce laser relative intensity noise (RIN). A RIN suppression servo is usually implemented by
