The NIST Standards Forum was held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, on NIST’s Gaithersburg campus in the Portrait Room. The purpose of this event was to communicate the commitment of NIST and its key partners to advance global standardization as a strategic priority for the United States.

NIST staff and stakeholders in the private sector and other federal agencies attended to learn how NIST is advancing standardization for critical and emerging technologies (CETs) through public-private partnerships, and ways their organizations and agencies can participate in this important activity.

The Forum featured NIST Director, Dr. Laurie Locascio, who delivered the morning Keynote Address on the National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology and the NSSCET Implementation Roadmap which was launched at a White House event in late July.  Gordon Gillerman, NIST Conformity Assessment Advisor, delivered the afternoon Keynote Address on The Role of Conformity Assessment in CETs.

The agenda also included exciting panel discussions on Public-Private Partnerships to Advance Global Standardization, during which our private sector partners shared their insights and perspectives, and Driving Innovation Through Standardization that featured many NIST Laboratory Directors and private sector partners who spoke to the impact of NIST’s work on standardization. The discussion covered topics such as standards development, conformity assessment, quality management, and accreditation, emphasizing priorities for public-private partnerships to accelerate global standardization in CETs.
