The Materials Genome Initiative (MGI) was launched in 2011 among a partnership of federal agencies to accelerate the discovery, design, development, and deployment of new materials, at a fraction of the cost of traditional research and development cycles, by harnessing the power of data and computational tools in combination with experimentation to predict the properties of new materials. The initiative creates policy, resources, and infrastructure to support U.S. manufacturers, academicians, and members of other organizations in the adoption of methods for accelerating materials development.

In its first decade, the MGI paradigm has fostered development and deployment of new transistors, solar materials, sensors, and more. Read about these success stories here.
