Located in Blue Springs, Mississippi, Toyota Mississippi and its team of 2,400 employees proudly assemble one of the world’s best-selling vehicles, the Toyota Corolla. Since breaking ground in 2007, Toyota Mississippi and its suppliers have created nearly 4,000 jobs and invested over $1.2 billion in the state’s economy. Currently, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Mississippi (TMMMS) offers five different workforce training programs with community partners to help close the skills gap in North Mississippi.
Like many companies, Toyota faces challenges in acquiring and retaining skilled employees, particularly qualified maintenance personnel. In response, Toyota has partnered with Itawamba Community College’s Workforce Division, an MMA-MEP Center for Mississippi, part of the MEP National Network™, to establish the Production to Skills (P2S) program.

The P2S program is designed to develop the skills of current production line workers and provide them the necessary training and skills to become qualified maintenance personnel. This intensive 14-week training program is designed to develop a pipeline of qualified, skilled workers to enhance operational efficiency and expand the pool of multi-talented maintenance employees. The program offers qualified production team members the opportunity to advance into entry-level maintenance positions.
This curriculum combines classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory exercises, equipping participants with both mechanical and electrical skills essential for a skilled maintenance team member role. Toyota's current maintenance employees also engage in maintenance skills training to further develop their existing competencies and take advantage of upskilling opportunities.
