Basic Electrical Skills Training

About

K&K Systems is a family-operated enterprise, boasting a dedicated workforce of approximately 50 employees, specializing in the production of message signs and traffic control systems. Their innovative solutions cater to a broad spectrum of applications within the industrial, marine, and highway transportation sectors. Utilized by numerous state transportation authorities across the country, including federal agencies, K&K Systems proudly designs and produces its cutting-edge products in Palmetto, Mississippi, located in the vicinity of Tupelo, MS.

The Challenge

K&K Systems’ array of products predominantly feature sophisticated electrical and control systems. The intricate electrical composition of their offerings necessitates a comprehensive understanding of electrical assembly techniques to circumvent quality discrepancies. Implementing a training program for the manufacturing staff that encompasses fundamental electrical and electronic principles is pivotal. Such an initiative promises to preemptively address potential quality challenges, thereby enhancing the overall customer experience and diminishing the necessity for post-delivery field services.
Our production team members have a better understanding of basic electronics as it pertains to how it is used in the products we build. With this extra knowledge, they are taking more ownership of their processes with the result of making a better product. Our quality team also has a better understanding and has used this knowledge to put in place better quality control processes which results in better products going to the customers.

MEP's Role

Itawamba Community College (ICC), part of the Mississipi MEP, MMA-MEP, and the MEP National Network™, crafted a tailored educational program aimed at enhancing the skill set of K&K Systems’ non-technical staff, focusing on the fundamentals of electricity and electronics. This initiative empowered the factory workforce with a deeper comprehension of the electrical and electronic aspects of their products, fostering a proactive approach to quality assurance. The strategic investment in electrical education is anticipated to cultivate a sense of pride and ownership among employees regarding their work. The anticipated outcomes include elevated product standards, heightened sense of employee responsibility towards product excellence, and a boost in team morale.
