IATF 16949 and Core Tools Training Essential to Tier 1 Automotive Supplier

About

Located in Auburn, Alabama, with 115 employees and four assembly lines, Rausch & Pausch LP (RAPA LP) is a Tier 1 automotive supplier that produces valve technologies transmission and air suspension applications.  RAPA is a subsidiary of Rausch & Pausch GmbH, located in North Bavaria, Germany which was founded in the 1920s.  The family-owned company is in its fourth generation of leadership by the Pausch family. Company clients have included BMW, Continental, Daimler, Jaguar, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Land Rover, and Tesla.

The Challenge

Being a Tier 1 automotive supplier, RAPA is required to maintain certification to the IATF-16949 standard to ensure that they meet their customer’s requirements. Specifically, RAPA needed an overview training of the IATF standard and an advanced product quality planning (APQP) and production part approval process (PPAP) training class, which is also a requirement of many automotive customers. For help, RAPA turned to ATN, part of the MEP National Network™. ATN worked directly with the quality manager to customize the specifics of the training to establish the desired outcome and help the company maintain industry standards.
Since 2016, RAPA has utilized ATN’s training and internal auditing services for IATF16949, core tools, and ISO14001. ATN offers management system expertise while balancing that with real-world experience and examples. Each training and auditing event offered learning experiences that were directly applicable to our daily and strategic work. We found ATN’s high level of service to be consistent, reliable, and customizable to our given needs. We consider ATN’s service a key component to our successful external audit and customer performance.

MEP's Role

ATN provided an overview training in IATF 16949, which covers the key regulations and applications of the IATF quality management standard from the International Automotive Task Force (IATF). Additionally, ATN provided the requested advanced product quality planning (APQP) and production part approval process (PPAP) training class covering the common guidelines described in the APQP and PPAP manuals issued by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG). For the APQP portion of the training, these guidelines lead to a designed quality plan from the product quality planning cycle that emphasized up-front planning and evaluation of process output for continual improvement and customer satisfaction. For the PPAP training, understanding when a PPAP is required and what items to include were key objectives.

By completing the training, RAPA was able to maintain its certification and retain sales. The company also reported new sales which were the result of their IATF 16949 certification. RAPA was also able to save on other investments by using ATN to perform these services, which would have cost more if another consultant would have performed the same services.
