COLLABORATION AND INFORMATION ALLOWS TEKTITE INDUSTRIES, INC. TO RIDE OUT PANDEMIC DISRUPTIONS

About

C.B. Kaupp & Sons of Maplewood, New Jersey, is an ISO 9001:2008 + AS9100:2009 Rev C certified manufacturer and leader in the hydro forming and precision CNC machining space. They are experts in sheet metal hydro forming. Hydro forming allows C.B. Kaupp & Sons to provide both prototype and production quantities. The DOD often turns to this New Jersey manufacturer because of its reputation for producing high-quality products and prototypes.

The Challenge

In order to ensure the safety and security of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) supply chain and critical infrastructure, the DOD is implementing new cybersecurity rules and regulations for manufacturers in the defense supply chain. Manufacturers will need to meet DOD standards in order to work in the defense supply chain, and C.B. Kaupp & Sons wanted to be proactive and stay ahead of the compliance curve. They began training key members of the organization early.

However, as with any new regulations, the rollout is complex and takes place in sections. C.B. Kaupp & Sons wanted to remain proactive. Once they received word that DOD contracts had started to mention the new requirements, leadership began looking for support.

It’s very important for the whole supply chain to stay on top of cyber threats. We definitely recommend this cybersecurity workshop to other manufacturers. It was very helpful. If you did a rework of this course, I’d certainly come back.

MEP's Role

C.B. Kaupp & Sons saw the value of participating in a training workshop with NJMEP because of its unmatched insight into NIST 800-171 and the latest regulatory changes for DOD contractors and subcontractors. NJMEP, part of the MEP National Network™, is in the unique position of having access to the details and intricacies behind the new DOD cybersecurity regulations. NJMEP works directly with the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), which released the NIST Special Publication 800-171. This document governs Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) in Non-Federal Information Systems and Organizations. It is the set of standards that define how to safeguard and distribute material deemed sensitive but not classified.

NJMEP training courses and workshops, included the one attended by C.B. Kaupp, provide a varying level of insight on critical business topics. Some workshops provide an easy to understand overview of a topic while others take a deep dive into a subject. Workshops can range from an hour to multiple days depending on the level of detail provided. Additionally, once a manufacturer completes a workshop, they're not left to manage these complex challenges on their own. The NJMEP continues to engage clients to ensure they have all the support they need to thrive and compete globally.
