Abstract
With rapid advances in meso, micro and nano scale technology devices and electronics a new generation of advance medical devices is emerging, which promises less invasive and more accurate, automated and effective medical treatments. We examined the technological and economic status of five different categories of medical devices. A set of metrology needs is identified for each one of these categories of medical devices and suggestions are made for addressing them.
