A new system for dielectrophoretic cell capture on porous polyester (PET) membranes is presented. Conventional photolithographic techniques were used to fabricate gold microelectrodes on a PET membrane. We characterized these electrodes to proof that there was no difference concerning roughness, permeability and hydrophilicity of the membrane before and after processing. Finally, the use of the patterned membrane could be shown for dielectrophoretic cell capturing and cell viability in a microfluidic device. This system will allow for cell-cell interaction and co-culture studies where spatial separation and different microenvironments are required.
