Andrew J. Gayle received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in 2023, working under Prof. Neil P. Dasgupta. He began working at NIST as an NRC postdoctoral fellow in 2023 and joined the staff as a materials research engineer in 2026. His primary research focus is the development of custom microscopes for probing the structural, chemical, and mechanical properties of materials, primarily for microelectronics advanced packaging applications. These microscopes incorporate various spectroscopic techniques, including conventional Raman spectroscopy, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), low-frequency Raman spectroscopy, and Brillouin spectroscopy.
